An Old Flame with Danger Written all over Her.
Things Are about to Get Very Complicated.
When one Coast Guard officer is found dead and another goes missing, Coast Guard Investigative Service special agent Finn Walker faces his most dangerous crime yet. His only clues are what little evidence remains aboard the dead officer's boat, and the direction the clues point to will test Finn and the Guard to their limits.
When investigative reporter--and Finn's boss's sister--Gabby Rowley arrives, her unrelenting questions complicate an already volatile situation. Now that she's back, the tug on Finn's heart is strong, but with the risks she's taking for her next big story, he fears she might not live through it.
Thrown together by the heinous crime, Finn and Gabby can't ignore the sparks or judgments flying between them. But will they be able to see past their preconceptions long enough to track down an elusive killer, or will they become his next mark?

My thoughts: My crew are huge NCIS fans, and even purchased the seasons on DVD so they can watch them at anytime. And having lived in Michigan, near Lake Michigan, we went to the annual Coast Guard Festival every summer. I still remember my young son tugging on my hand and pointing to a Coastie way up on a mast and saying, "I want to do that someday, Mommy." Oh my heart.
Said son lived and breathed the Coast Guard and my heart ripped in two the day he got on the airplane to head to boot camp. And while he is not yet CGIS that is his ultimate goal and if he stays the course, Lord willing, he'll get there.
You might be interested to know that some of the Coasties he worked with were walk-on actors on NCIS as Coasties.
All that to say is that THE KILLING TIDE is Dani Pettrey at her finest. CGIS fiction in the style of NCIS (for other fans), nonstop suspense, romance, and of course, our country's finest, the Coast Guard.
And while I had suspicions who-dun-it, the getting there was so pleasant I didn't stress over it and oh, by the way, I was half-right and half-wrong. It took me a long time to read this book because I have a busy life, but I kept picking it up night after night.
Okay, the ending felt a bit forced and convenient and the scene changes during the story were jarring.
If you like NCIS you will love THE KILLING TIDE.
I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.
