Interview with Norma Gail about her new release

Today we welcome Norma Gail to my blog to talk about her new release. Thanks for stopping by! Tell us about the book:

Like Land of My Dreams, the first book in the series, Within Golden Bands is set in Scotland. Unlike most readers have come to expect, the books are contemporary rather than historical. Each book stands alone, but I hope you’ll want to read them both.

Here is the Back Cover Copy:

Newly married Bonny MacDonell finds the transition from American college professor to Scottish sheep farmer’s wife more difficult than she expected. When her miracle pregnancy ends in a devastating miscarriage, she fears her husband's reaction will hurt more than the loss of their child.

But Kieran never shows up at the hospital. When found, he is beaten and unconscious. The only memory of his attacker is the words, “Get off my land.” Reeling from the threat to her husband and the loss of their child, Bonny struggles to hold her marriage together. When faith in love is not enough, where do you turn?

Why do you write the kind of books you do?

I enjoy fiction with a purpose, stories about strong women who grow in their faith through the trials they face. I believe that fiction is a great way to watch how Christians live out their faith in the real world. To be true to life, they have to struggle with doubt and despair just as we do.

Scotland is the setting of both books because I fell in love with the country when we visited in 2006. I think readers will enjoy the taste of another culture. I also weave in much of my New Mexico heritage. The contrast between cultures and climate add to the romance.

What is your current work in progress?

I’m finishing the edits on a contemporary romance novella, also set in New Mexico. It’s actually a rewrite of an old story I wrote in high school, about a hundred years ago. High school graduate meets rock star heart throb, elopes, and ends up divorced. He shows up on her doorstep ten years later, hoping to patch things up.

What three things about you would surprise readers?

I love going off-road in my Jeep. I love to look at the ocean, but being from the desert, I find it a little terrifying. I met my husband when I was sixteen and dating his best friend.

What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?

Traveling in our RV, trying local foods when we travel, and family history. I am a fanatic about researching my ancestors, seeing where they lived, and visiting cemeteries.

What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?

Like most writers, I have trouble balancing the book promotion and social media. Once I get started on a story, it’s hard to take time to do promotion. I can’t say I have found a way to overcome it yet.
